Heartstring is a Melbourne based theatre company formed in 2016. Our aim is to create dynamic, thought-provoking theatre, interpreting both classical and new work. At Heartstring we endeavour to address the shortage of great and interesting roles for women by producing plays where at least half of the actors on stage are female-identifying and non-binary actors.

Heartstring's Artistic Directors are Elisa Armstrong and Joanne Booth. Their premiere production was William Shakespeare's CORIOLANUS, performed with an all-female cast, at the Mechanics Institute, Brunswick April 27 - May 8, 2016.

Their next production was MARIE ANTOINETTE, written by David Adjmi, which premiered at Northcote Town Hall July 5- 15, 2018.

In 2021 the Heartstring production was STILL, written by Jen Silverman, and directed by Sarah Vickery at fortyfivedownstairs June 30 - July 11, 2021.

Next up was LITTLE EYOLF, a co production with Burning House, performed at the Explosives Factory, St Kilda December 2 - 10, 2022.

Heartstring’s most recent show was CYMBELINE (OR, IMOGEN), another co-production with Burning House, and was staged at Collingwood Yards May 15 - 25, 2024.
